XENA Pyrotechnics specialises in professional firework displays, special effects, and the hire and supply of pyrotechnics for the international show industry.
We work for festivals, events, companies and productions where reliability, safety and visual quality central.
Our strength lies in the combination of technical knowledge, artistic insight and practical feasibility.
No standard solutions, but tailor-made solutions to suit location, production and audience.
Our company and our way of working can best be summarised by our key core values: quality, passion, and creativity.
Quality
The quality of Xena Pyrotechnics is naturally evident in the final result; the translation of what you envisioned into a show designed by us. But equally important to us is the way in which this comes about. With our structured approach, we strive to offer you the best at every stage of the process.
Passion
Sometimes we spend a whole day setting up for a 15-minute fireworks display... So our people really have to have a passion for fireworks and special effects! And when everything has gone safely and according to plan, we are proud of our team of planners, designers, pyrotechnicians, and operators.
Creativity
You can see our creativity reflected in our firework displays. However, it is also our way of thinking, which is always focused on finding opportunities and practical solutions. This also helps us to make our entire organisation more sustainable and, for example, to develop products that are more eco-friendly than traditional fireworks.
At our company, everything revolves around quality, passion, and creativity, and our people embody these core values. Through regular (internal) training, we keep our team updated on product developments, new applications, legal regulations, and safety aspects.
At this video This gives you an impression of the Xena Pyrotechnics team. This footage was made during the setup of a show at the Fireworks Festival in Scheveningen in 2018.
Our pyrotechnicians are KIWA certified for the application of fireworks and pyrotechnic special effects. This three-yearly course is a legal requirement, and seven of our staff now hold these personal certificates.
This enables Xena Pyrotechnics to carry out complex and large projects safely and successfully, and, where necessary, multiple projects can be executed on the same day.
For the safe and responsible transport of the fireworks to be used, 3 of our people have been trained as ADR drivers with the specialisation Class 1 (explosives).
Transport to the point of detonation is managed internally by us using our own transport vehicles approved for the carriage of explosive substances. Our transport buses are equipped with a special EX/II ADR certificate and are therefore suitable for transporting professional fireworks.
When you decide to enlist Xena Pyrotechnics for a firework display, there are a number of steps that will be taken with you. These steps are briefly explained below, so that you get a good impression of our approach and working method.

You are investigating the possibilities for a fireworks display, or have a specific wish regarding fireworks and have approached us for this. Based on your idea or wishes, we will explore the possibilities together.
In many cases, we will visit the location where you wish the event to take place and analyse what is and isn't possible. Furthermore, the budget is an important prerequisite, as you ultimately want to know where you stand financially in advance.
After mapping out the possibilities at the project location, your wishes and your budget, we will translate this into a concrete project description together with our designers.
Central to our project proposal will be the experience and atmosphere you wish to convey at your event. Based on our experience, we are able to formulate a suitable proposal and summarise this for you in a clear quotation with unambiguous agreements.
Following your approval, we will apply for the necessary ignition permit from the Environmental Agency of the relevant Province. For this, we will, among other things, create a map of the shooting location with safety circles showing the necessary distances to the public and buildings, the positioning of fire-fighting equipment, and existing escape routes. If required, we will also prepare additional risk analyses and an action plan for the Province.
Your project will be scheduled by us and our designers will get to work internally on a definitive show design and the associated programming of our firing computers.
When our pyrotechnicians arrive at the firing site, their first priority will be to establish adequate cordons to commence operations safely.
All fireworks effects are prepared, fitted with electric igniters and correctly connected to our firing computers. The firework display will then be fired entirely electronically at the agreed time, based on the pre-designed show programme.
After the fireworks display, we will ensure that the firing location is left as clean as possible.
After the project has been completed, we would be grateful to hear whether you were satisfied with our approach and whether we have translated your wishes correctly. Your feedback is appreciated and is important for the continuous development and improvement of our organisation.
Everyone knows that fireworks do not make a positive contribution to our environment. The same applies to cars; this is also known, and therefore, in the automotive industry, the development of more sustainable alternatives is a current topic.
Within our company, the development of more sustainable fireworks has also been on the agenda for years. In collaboration with our partners and our Chinese and Italian manufacturers, we are constantly looking for ways to make the fireworks used more environmentally friendly. This has now actually resulted in a number of innovations that have reduced the environmental impact.

Pyrotechnic Special Effects (PSE) largely consist of singleshots with comets, mines, and aerial effects. Traditionally manufactured singleshots contain many plastic components, in addition to the casing, which are left behind in nature after the effect charge is expelled.
We specifically choose suppliers who have replaced these parts with paper and cardboard (debris-free), thereby reducing environmental pollution. The plastic housing of the single shots is offered by Xena Pyrotechnics to an authorised waste collector, who takes care of the further recycling process, thus enabling reuse.
Another development that we wholeheartedly welcome is the use of less heavy metals in fireworks effects. Our Italian suppliers are increasingly able to produce certain colours with a smaller amount of harmful substances. Although these products are considerably more expensive in some cases, we consciously prefer products manufactured using this more environmentally friendly method.
In addition to innovations that make our products more environmentally friendly, our business operations are also aimed at minimising environmental impact. This is reflected, among other things, in:
Segregated waste
Just like at home, we also have a habit of separating waste at our company. In our workshop, after projects are completed, the waste is sorted by type and collected in the various designated bins and containers. All separated plastic, paper, metal, wood, and other business waste is processed in an environmentally friendly manner by accredited waste disposal companies.
Environmental aspects in procurement
When purchasing business assets and office supplies, we pay attention not only to the price but also to the environmental impact. For example, we use newer company vans that are equipped with a particulate filter, SCR catalyst, and AdBlue, resulting in significantly lower nitrogen oxide emissions than older diesel engines. We also consciously purchase our energy from a green energy supplier and have equipped our business premises with exclusively LED lighting.
